Hannon Armstrong was awarded Best ESG Reporting (small to mid-cap) by Corporate Secretary during its 14th annual Corporate Governance Awards for its integrated ESG strategy and robust reporting efforts. Corporate Secretary’s award for ESG reporting recognizes “the quality and robustness of ESG-related reporting, including exposure to environmental risk factors such as global warming, employee health and safety, foreign corrupt practices, consumer safety, social responsibility, and corporate sustainability.” In determining the winner, the judges also factored in Hannon Armstrong’s understanding of the role the company plays in both the local and global community.

Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ) honored Hannon Armstrong and ENGIE for outstanding business performance in the climate change industry in its 11th annual CCBJ Business Achievement Awards. CCBJ assesses markets and business opportunities across the emerging climate change industry and acknowledged both companies with the Financial Partnerships award for our joint-investment in a 2.3 GW renewables portfolio of 13 U.S. projects (nine onshore wind and four solar) announced in July 2020. The partnership combines Hannon Armstrong’s extensive experience in providing long-term investment for climate solutions with the best-in-class development and operations experience of ENGIE, a global energy and services leader dedicated to accelerating the deployment of clean, affordable, innovative and resilient energy solutions. From October to December 2020, CCBJ solicited the environmental industry and climate change industry via email, social media, its website, industry events, and word-of-mouth for nominations for the CCBJ Business Achievement Awards. Nominations were accepted in 200-word essays in either specific or unspecified categories. Final awards were determined by a committee of CCBJ staff and CCBJ editorial advisory board members.

Top Project of the Year Award

In partnership with Ameresco and the U.S. Marine Corps, Hannon Armstrong received the Top Project of the Year Award in the Environment + Energy Leader Awards program for its U.S Marine Corps. Recruit Depot (MRCD) comprehensive energy resilience project at Parris Island, South Carolina. Financed by a $91 million energy savings performance (ESPC) contract with Hannon Armstrong, Ameresco deployed combined heat and power (CHP) and solar photovoltaic generation, installed an advanced battery energy storage system and automated microgrid control system, and implemented energy conservation measures to optimize efficiency and reduce reliance on the main utility grid. The judges identified the MCRD Parris Island project as a leading example of the innovative work being done today in the fields of energy and environmental management. “The project successfully provided sustainability benefits & mission continuity at a critical training location. This is clearly the model that should be followed in the future.”

Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure Capital was recognized in the inaugural list of The Americas’ Fastest Growing Companies 2020, by The Financial Times and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.
The FT list ranks entrants from across the Americas by compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenue between 2015 and 2018. The results were achieved by conducting months of research, public calls, intensive database research and directly contacting tens of thousands of companies. In the end, FT identified 500 outstanding companies among the millions of existing North and South American enterprises.

The U.S. Marine Corps’ Recruit Depot Parris Island Energy Resiliency project won the Government Energy Storage & Microgrids category of the Smart Energy Decisions 2020 Innovation Awards.
The partnership between Ameresco, U.S. Marine Corps and Hannon Armstrong on comprehensive energy resilience project at Parris Island, South Carolina, was financed by a $91 million energy savings performance (ESPC) contract. All work came at zero upfront cost to Parris Island and the anticipated $6.9 million in guaranteed utility cost savings annually will pay back Hannon Armstrong over a set 22-year contract term. “The comprehensive makeover of the site from efficiency and renewables investments, combined with the slanging microgrid sets the standard for government military facilities and indeed any large, complex campus type environment.”

Through Better Buildings, DOE aims to make commercial, public, industrial, and residential buildings 20% more energy efficient over the next decade.
