Susan D. Nickey
Executive Vice President and Chief Client Officer
Susan Nickey is executive vice president and chief client officer of HASI (NYSE: HASI), a leading investor in climate solutions. In this capacity, she oversees business development opportunities and manages client relationships with clean energy and engineering companies to drive new and programmatic client investments. In addition to ensuring the seamless integration of HASI’s client-centric approach across the company, Ms. Nickey leads the Corporate Affairs group responsible for communications, marketing, public policy, government relations, and supporting other external stakeholder engagement.
Ms. Nickey joined HASI in 2014, serving as a managing director until January 2021. Prior to joining HASI, she founded and served as chief executive officer of Threshold Power. Prior to that, Ms. Nickey was the chief financial officer of ACCIONA Energy North America. She joined ACCIONA in 2007 from Mesirow Financial, where she was a managing director of investment banking in the project finance group. Previously a member of the board of directors for the American Council of Renewable Energy (ACORE) and the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Ms. Nickey currently serves as chair of the board of the American Clean Power Association (ACP), the leading voice of the multi-tech clean energy industry in the U.S. Ms. Nickey is a frequent speaker at renewable energy forums, particularly on topics related to capital markets and financing trends for clean energy, including wind, solar, and storage.
Ms. Nickey has received numerous accolades for her significant influence and impactful contributions in the clean power industry. These recognitions include the Tamarindo Wind Power List (2023), AWAW North American Power List (2018-2022), AWAW Women’s Power List (2021), Environment+Energy Top 100 (2021), and being named Woman of the Year by The Cleanie Awards (2020). Ms. Nickey holds a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science in foreign service from Georgetown University.
